In the rose garden

Roses painted in oils carry a particular warmth — the colour holds differently, the texture feels alive under the palette knife. In the Rose Garden is a floral still life in oil impasto, built up in thick layers directly onto stretched canvas. The palette knife works across petals and leaves, pressing colour into form and letting the paint itself describe the weight of a full bloom. The sides of the canvas are painted, so the work is finished all the way around and hangs without a frame.
